Katarina Livljanić soprano
Danijel Detoni piano
The taste for medieval music comes back regularly, in waves. After Viollet-le-Duc restored Notre-Dame and Victor Hugo dedicated a novel to it, this repertoire experienced a new craze during the Belle Epoque.
Erik Satie wrote pieces such as Chanson médiévale. The singer Yvette Guilbert, immortalized in black gloves on Toulouse-Lautrec’s posters, interpreted tunes from those distant times in cafés-concerts.
Doctor in musicology, specialist in medieval liturgical music, Katarina Livljanić is amused by this mixture of genres. With her pianist, she mixes authentic pieces from the past with more modern inventions, delighting in the finesse and humor of the latter. His commented tour de chant invites us not to take ourselves too seriously and to accept that our relationship with the past sometimes resembles, to use a delightful expression by Satie, the “memories of an amnesiac”.
